VISUAL
ARTS COMMITTEE
Annual
Report, May 2006
The church
year
2005-06 began with a new co-chair, Maida Wright. The
committee membership has dwindled, but
meetings have been held most every month.
Accomplishments during this year include:
- Made and
donated a
basket, which earned $70 in the October Auction.
- Developed
procedures,
with bookkeepers and staff, to manage sales by individual
artists/vendors in
the church narthex and/or foyer, with UUCF gaining a percentage from
all sales.
- Cooperated
with staff
and various committees in considering plans for decorations in the
sanctuary,
improvements in three classrooms and other areas inside and outside the
church
building.
- Researched
various
window treatments to mitigate glare in Sanctuary. A
report to the Board of Trustees is in
process as we await bids.
- Managed
UUCF art
gallery, earned approximately $1150 in commissions on sales through May
2006.
- Sponsored
11 exhibits,
including a group show of work by UUCF adult members and a young
people’s exhibit. Encouraged attendance at
artists’ receptions
for all shows.
- Sponsored
a talk by
artist Tina Brown to encourage awareness and appreciation of
wildflowers on Sugarloaf Mountain.
- Named
the gallery for
Blanche Ames Ames, UU artist and social activist. Ordered
new signage to indicate the name.
- Revised
web page to
include descriptions and sample art for monthly gallery exhibits.
