Blanche Ames Gallery
The Blanche Ames Gallery features over 100’ of art exhibition space in two light-filled hallways within the UUCF building. The gallery's name was chosen because Blanche Ames (1878-1969) was an exceptional Unitarian, a leader who serves as an inspiration to us today. With her minutely observed drawings and etchings she illustrated her husband's 7-volume treatise on orchids. Ames' endeavors extended beyond art. She was a feminist, a leader in civic and charitable affairs, an inventor, an engineer, and an author. An extensive biographical sketch can be found by clicking on Blanche Ames.
The Gallery is open to the public on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and during 9-5 business hours Tuesday through Friday. Please call 301-473-7680 before visiting on weekdays to assure that the building is open. You may also visit by appointment at other times by calling that number, or via email to office@frederickuu dot org.

Blanche Ames Gallery Announces Selections for Juried Art Show for November 2013
The Blanche Ames Gallery's Third Biennial Juried Show will be held from November 3-24, 2013. with artists focusing on the theme Light and Shadow.
LIGHT & SHADOW
Without light, we see nothing.
Light without shadow is whiteout, fog, glare.
To see the world …. loved ones, nature, objects, ourselves … requires the interplay of light and shadow. The more interesting the interplay, the more we look, trying to understand what makes life so beautiful. “Light & Shadow” is Blanche Ames Gallery’s Third Biennial Juried Art Show. "Light & Shadow is a regional show. It includes 36 artists - twenty-one from Frederick County (Frederick City and other towns), the others from various towns and states around us. These artists submitted -- one or two works per artist using any medium. To publicize the Show, several images from artists selected to exhibit will be provided to local newspapers, art organizations and online websites. Since judging will not have occurred, as yet, these images may or may not be award winners. We will share images of award-winning art after the Juror's November 3 announcement.
Juror Margaret Dowell has selected 42 works for exhibit, from over 120 works entered. Below is the link to the list of artists and works to be in the show, which opens in the Gallery on Sunday, November 3.
At the November 3rd Opening Reception, we will announce the Juror’s Picks for cash prizes (first, second, third and three honorable mention).
