Sunil Sukla's series “Celebration of Life” will be exhibited at the Blanche Ames Gallery May 4-25,2014. He shares with the viewer his perception of the wonders of everyday life. Immersing into the American society as an immigrant from Bangladesh, his life has been enriched with very interesting experiences in diverse climates, cultures, environments and with various kinds of people. Through his paintings, Sunil brings to life observations of aspects of life in a daily context e.g. a rickshaw passing by a crowded city street or a lone farmhouse surrounded by snow for miles. Through the use of various media, painting techniques and composition style, Sunil has sought to surprise and bring pleasure to the viewer to celebrate the uniqueness of what we otherwise take for granted.

From his observation of daily life in Bangladesh, he captures the essence of the hustle bustle of Old City in Dhaka with clever compositions and textures of various media. He also brings out the beauty of simple life in the villages surrounding Dhaka with expressive color use and brush strokes.

He has explored both representational and abstract styles to uncover the beauty of daily life. adhere to the essence that he believes is true of what entails the “Celebration of Life” Color and Textures. His careful brushwork for a lot of his realistic work are created through a delicate build up of thin layers of watercolor, suggesting the impressionistic while subtly retaining the quality of nature. His recent, more experimental work are a play of shapes, use of materials and colors to convey emotions and expressions that leaves the viewer to his or her interpretation.

In the US, Sunil takes pleasure in discovering and then expressing in his own way, the uniqueness of places that may go unnoticed, to give them their own special identity. For example, in his paintings, he expresses the vibrant allure of a dock in Annapolis, or the peaceful stillness of the countryside of western Maryland.

Mr. Sunil Sukla was born and raised in Sunamganj, Bangladesh. There, he was surrounded and inspired by some of the most exciting sceneries. His watercolors of village life, old cities, boats, landscapes of Bangladesh and country side in the U.S are a realistic with a high level of atmospheric quality to them. Recently, the atmospheric essence can be seen in his more modern, expressionistic work.

Sunil graduated from Dhaka University with a B.F.A. in Drawing and Painting in 1977. He has had many group and solo exhibitions of his works, along with private commissions. In addition, Frederick Post has published an article about his life as an artist on the October 2009 issue. Currently, he has his own studio at his residence in picturesque, historical town of Boonsboro, Maryland
