"Short Stories" (Group show)

The Blanche Ames Gallery has invited for the November 2-30, 2014 Gallery show, skilled photographers from the November 2013 Juried Art Show to exhibit photographic series. The series represent the old cliché, “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words. Hence the title for this show, "Short Stories”.

The show's theme title is one developed by the Visual Arts Committee and challenges the invited participants to create a short series of images that communicate something about life, something more than only light and pattern. To approach their work, a photo-journalist would, communicate a plot or a progression of time or a feeling in a way that cannot be done with one image alone.

People have always gathered together sharing experiences and history as a way of shaping cultures and communities. In more recent times some people have lamented that the art of storytelling has been lost. Primary due to rise of different technologies. But one can also wonder if perhaps it’s just the way we tell stories that has changed. One such medium for story telling in the time we live is digital photography. Cameras (i-phones) are everywhere recording what people are observing or enjoying. People are recording life stories all the time, then sharing their lives/stories via Facebook or Instagram or the many other social media avenues.

This exhibit presents images by skilled photographers telling short stories that engage our curiosity, our imagination and our hopes. An added interactive feature of the show is having visitors write their version of the short story the photos tell them. After they leave the Gallery they will be able to view the stories that have been posted on the www.facebook.com/BlancheAmesGallery, page, along with the images and with credit to the photographer.

A reception for this show will be held at the Blanche Ames Gallery, November 2 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Friends , members and visitors are welcome to participate in this unique show. Please call the church office for additional days and times to assure that the church is open.
